Mr. E & me sitting in a tree. . .

    {.....K-I-S-S-I-N-G.....}

    These cookies are inspired by my sister and her hubby who carve their initials in a tree wherever they live. {Insert "aww..." here.}

If you are ever on an Army base in Hawaii, and see a tree with a M + M carved on it, that's them. ;)

Even if you don't make the trees, the little initial hearts are about the easiest Valentine cookies EVER!  Just outline, flood and, the next day, use a food coloring pen to write on initials.  Easy Peasy.

The make the trees you'll need:

Cut out cookies using a circle cutter and with a knife, cut a thin rectangle.  Smoosh (technical term) together before baking to make a tree shape.

Once the cookies have cooled, outline the top of the tree and the trunk of the tree using #2 tips.  Pipe a heart in the center of the trunk. (The red icing won't be used until the next day, cover with plastic wrap, pressing onto the icing, and store in the fridge.)

Reserve some piping consistency green icing. Thin the brown and remaining green icing with water, a teaspoon at a time, stirring until it reaches the consistency of thick syrup.  Cover with a damp dish towel and set aside.

After several minutes, stir the icings gently with a rubber spatula to pop and air bubbles that have risen to the surface.  Transfer to squeeze bottles.

Flood the tree top with the thinned green icing and the tree trunk in brown.  Use a toothpick to guide into edges and pop air bubbles.

Wait at least one hour, then with the #2 tip, pipe grass on the bottom of the trunk.  Let dry overnight.

With a fan brush and Chocolate Brown food coloring thinned with water, add the wood grain.  To make the wood grain, I used a technique I learned from Renee. You can see her wood grain on cookies video on University of Cookie (she's so good).

Thin the red icing with water, as described above and fill in the heart.

    Let dry overnight.

The next day, use the food coloring pens to write on initials.

Have you ever carved your initials in a tree?  I'm thinking Mr. E & I need to.

Olive You! (Martini & Olive Valentine Cookies)

    Olive you!

I've made these martini cookies before, but they needed an update (and new pictures).  And they needed giant olives....with heart-shaped pimientos.

    {Because nothing says "Valentine" like a heart-shaped pimiento.}

The idea came from a Valentine card that I gave Mr. E a few years ago.

    {Sure sign cookies have taken over your life?  Everything you see becomes a cookie.}

To make the martinis, you'll need:

With a #2 tip, outline the cookies in white.

Reserve some piping consistency red icing.  Thin the pink and remaining red icing with water, a teaspoon at a time, stirring until it reaches the consistency of thick syrup.  Cover with a damp dish towel and set aside.

After several minutes, stir the icings gently with a rubber spatula to pop and air bubbles that have risen to the surface.  Transfer to squeeze bottles.

Flood most of the martini glass with the thinned pink icing, leaving a little room at the top.

Flood the top of the glass and the bottom of the stem in white.  Use a toothpick to guide to the edges.

    Let sit 1 hour.

Using a #1 tip, pipe the arrow swizzle stick.

With the #12 tip, pipe the olive with avocado icing.

Directly on top of the olive, pipe a heart with the red icing.

    Let dry overnight before packaging.

    ♥Cheers, you guys!  Happy Valentine's WEEK! ♥

Girls Need To Realize | ADVICE for boys and girls and for lovers

Girls Need To Realize: WRITTEN BY A GUY

We guys don't care if you talk to other guys.
We don't care if you're friends with other guys.
    But
when you're sitting next to us, and some random guy walks into the room
and you jump up and tackle him, without even introducing us, yeah, it
    pisses us off.

It doesn't help if you sit there and talk to him for ten minutes without even acknowledging the fact that we're still there.

We don't care if a guy calls you,
but at 2 in the morning we do get a little concerned.

Nothing is that important at 2 a.m.

That it can't wait till the morning.

    Also, when we tell you you're pretty/ beautiful/ gorgeous/
cute/ stunning, we freaking mean it.

    Don't tell us we're wrong.

We'll stop trying to convince you.

The sexiest thing about a girl is confidence.

    Yeah, you can quote me.

Don't be mad when we hold the door open.

Take Advantage of the mood im in.

    Let us pay for you!
    dont 'feel bad'
    We enjoy doing it.

    It's expected.

    Smile and say 'thank you.

Kiss us when no one's watching.

If you kiss us when you know somebody's looking, we'll be more impressed.

You don't have to get dressed up for us.

If we're going out with you in the first place, you don't have to feel the need to
wear the shortest skirt you have or put on every kind of makeup you own.

We like you for who you are and not what you are.

Honestly, i think a girl looks more beautiful when she's just in her pj's.

or my tshirt and boxers, not all dolled up.

Don't take everything we say seriously.

Sarcasm is a beautiful thing.. See the beauty in it.

    Don't get angry easily.

Stop using magazines/media as your bible.

Don't talk about how hott Chris Brown,
Brad Pitt, or Jesse McCartney is in front of us.

It's boring, and we don't care. You have girlfriends for that.

Whatever happened to the word 'handsome'/'beautiful'
i'd be utterly stunned by a girl who greeted me
with 'Hey handsome!' instead of 'Hey baby/ stud/ cutie/ sexy' or whatever else you can think of.

On the other hand im not sayin i woulndnt like it ether ; )

Girls, I cannot stress this enough: if you aren't being treated right by a guy, dont wait for him to change!!!!!

Ditch his sorry butt, disgrace to the male population
and find someone who will treat you with utter respect
Someone who will honor your morals.

Someone who will make you smile when you're at your lowest.

Someone who will care for you even when you make mistakes.

Someone who will love you, no matter how bad you make them feel.

Someone who will stop what they're doing just to look you in the eyes....and say 'i love you' ..and actually mean it.

Give the nice guys a chance.

Guys repost this if you agree.

Girls repost this if you think it's cute.

Every Guy who isn't a jerk will agree with this,
so we hope that all the girls that read this will repost this.

    ADVICE:

    *Holding Hands
Girls :If you want to hold his hand, gently bump into it a couple of
    times.

    *Movies
Girls : During a movie, if he puts his arm around you, tilt your head on his shoulder
Guys : Lift her chin up and kiss her.

    *Loving each other
Guys : When she tells you she loves you, look deep into her eyes, give her a peck on the lips, and tell her you love her
    too... And mean it.

    *Laying below the stars
    Girls:
When you're both laying under the stars, put your head on his chest and
close your eyes as you listen to his steady heart beat
Guys : Whisper in her ear and link your hands with hers.

Guys Comment this if you agree, girls Comment this if you think it's cute.

Pucker Up, Buttercup (New Year's Eve Cookies)

Mr. E & I didn't meet on New Year's Eve, but I like to say that's when we fell in love.
His roommate had been dating one of my best friends for a while.  So, we knew each other, but never given one another much thought.  At a New Year's Eve party, while my girlfriend Laura was running around finding her cousin to introduce to Mr. E and some guy to introduce to me....we ended up talking.  We never did meet that cousin or that guy we were supposed to have been set up with.

At midnight, Mr. E kissed me on the cheek.  I was smitten.  A little over 3 years {and one breakup} later, we were married. ♥
So, New Year's Eve has a special place in my heart....even though we won't be going out, we'll be sipping champagne at home (well, he'll be sipping a beer), watching the ball drop in Times Square on TV.

I'm running out of time to get these posted, so no tutorial, but you can see from these pictures how the cookies came together:
{I used my candy corn cookie cutter. These were decorated with royal icing, with a touch of luster dust on the hats and food coloring pens for the girls' cheeks.)
    HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

CUTE LOVE COLLECTION

A girl asked boy if she thought she is pretty,
    He said no.
She asked him if he want to be with her forever
    He said no.
She then asked him if she were to leave would he cry?
    And again he replied no.
She had heard enough as she walked away,
    Tears streaming down her face,
The boy grabbed her arm and said:
    ur not pretty ur beautiful
And I dont want to be with you,
I need to be with u,
And the day you leave me I won’t cry I would die…

Love your Parents - If you ask me why than read this post

When you came into the world, she held you in her arms. You thanked her by wailing like a banshee.

When you were 1 year old, she fed you and bathed you. You thanked her by crying all night long.

When you were 2 years old, she taught you to walk. You thanked her by running away when she called.

When you were 3 years old, she made all your meals with love. You thanked her by tossing your plate on the floor.

When you were 4 years old, she gave you some crayons. You thanked her by coloring the dining room table.

When you were 5 years old, she dressed you for the holidays. You thanked her by plopping into the nearest pile of mud.

When you were 6 years old, she walked you to school. You thanked her by screaming, "I'M NOT GOING!"

When you were 7 years old, she bought you a baseball. You thanked her by throwing it through the next-door-neighbor's window.

When you were 8 years old, she handed you an ice cream. You thanked her by dripping it all over your lap.

When you were 9 years old, she paid for piano lessons. You thanked her by never even bothering to practice.

When you were 10 years old, she drove you all day, from soccer to gymnastics to one birthday party after another. You thanked her by jumping out of the car and never looking back.

When you were 11 years old, she took you and your friends to the movies. You thanked her by asking to sit in a different row.

When you were 12 years old, she warned you not to watch certain TV shows. You thanked her by waiting until she left the house.

    Those Teenage Years

When you were 13, she suggested a haircut that was becoming. You thanked her by telling her she had no taste.

When you were 14, she paid for a month away at summer camp. You thanked her by forgetting to write a single letter.

When you were 15, she came home from work, looking for a hug. You thanked her by having your bedroom door locked.

When you were 16, she taught you how to drive her car. You thanked her by taking it every chance you could.

When you were 17, she was expecting an important call. You thanked her by being on the phone all night.

When you were 18, she cried at your high school graduation. You thanked her by staying out partying until dawn.

    Growing Old and Gray

When you were 19, she paid for your college tuition, drove you to campus, carried your bags. You thanked her by saying good-bye outside the dorm so you wouldn't be embarrassed in front of your friends.

When you were 20, she asked whether you were seeing anyone. You thanked her by saying, "It's none of your business."

When you were 21, she suggested certain careers for your future. You thanked her by saying, "I don't want to be like you."

When you were 22, she hugged you at your college graduation. You thanked her by asking whether she could pay for a trip to Europe.

When you were 23, she gave you furniture for your first apartment. You thanked her by telling your friends it was ugly.

When you were 24, she met your fiancé and asked about your plans for the future. You thanked her by glaring and growling, "Muuhh-ther, please!"

When you were 25, she helped to pay for your wedding, and she cried and told you how deeply she loved you. You thanked her by moving halfway across the country.

When you were 30, she called with some advice on the baby. You thanked her by telling her, "Things are different now." When you were 40, she called to remind you of an relative's birthday. You thanked her by saying you were "really busy right now."

When you were 50, she fell ill and needed you to take care of her. You thanked her by reading about the burden parents become to their children.

And then, one day, she quietly died. And everything you never did came crashing down like thunder. "Rock me baby, rock me all night long." The hand who rocks the cradle ... may rock the world".

Let us take a moment of the time just to pay tribute and show appreciation to the person called MOM though some may not say it openly to their mother. There's no substitute for her. Cherish every single moment. Though at times she may not be the best of friends, may not agree to our thoughts, she is still your mother!!!

Your mother will be there for you; to listen to your woes, your braggings, your frustrations, etc. Ask yourself "Have you put aside enough time for her, to listen to her "blues" of working in the kitchen, her tiredness???"

Be tactful, loving and still show her due respect, though you may have a different view from hers. Once gone, only fond memories of the past and also regrets will be left.

DO NOT TAKE FOR GRANTED THE THINGS CLOSEST TO YOUR HEART. LOVE HER MORE THAN YOU LOVE YOURSELF. LIFE IS MEANINGLESS WITHOUT HER.

Love tester check your love ratings

VD

    February 14, 2010

Oh, another Valentine's Day. Some people believe that Valentine's Day is nothing more than a commercialized holiday and that couples should show their love for each other every day. I agree. However having been married, I also know that paying the bills, cleaning the toilet, cooking meals and the mundane tasks of daily living usually robs the romance from relationships, so I believe that a day set aside to reignite the love is not such a bad idea. Being single this Valentine's Day stings a little bit, not for lack of gifts or flowers, but a reminder of the lack of romantic love in my life. Regardless, I decided to make the most of it by watching break-up movies with a duo of friends. We indulged in 'Annie Hall', 'Cashback' and 'Lars and the Real Girl' - all wonderfully quirky films about romantic relationships - and a caramel apple upside down cake. Today's question is: what is the most popular Valentine's Day gift?

A: Well, it seems that VD really is a Hallmark holiday! According to the Greeting Card Association (yes, there really is a trade organization devoted to greeting cards and stationary!) 190 million cards are sent each year, that is excluding the ones that school children send.

According to the annual consumer survey, conducted by the National Retail Federation, fifty-five percent of the US consumers were planning to send at least one Valentine's card this year.

The Game of Love

I just love hearing about couples getting engaged...don't you? Just the thought of a new marriage, a new family...and well, the wedding cake, makes me turn to mush.

My cousin Meg got engaged last month...yay! Now, I have 9 younger cousins...just on one side of the family. Hearing about their engagements is always exciting, but this one was especially thrilling because I've actually gotten a chance to get to know her *now* fiance....and he is such GREAT GUY!

    {ok, first...how adorable are they?!?}

Let me tell you a just little about Meg & Sean:
♥Meg is about 12 years younger than I am. She used to write to me in college...telling me about how she would get up before school to do "Mousercise" (Mickey Mouse jazzercise) and writing out songs she had composed....at age 7! (As I remember, there were a lot of "Ooo, baby's" in the lyrics!) I think she is the most stylish person I know!
♥Sean was the first person my son ever met who owned an iPhone. And he let him PLAY WITH IT...that promoted him to "cool" right there. He plays guitar and sings and...Sean is also a SCRABBLE Champion. And that's where the cookies come in.

    {Seriously, now...don't you think the "blank" tile in Scrabble should be a heart ♥? I can picture it now....Scrabble, the Valentine Edition...a pink and red board with little heart tiles. *I* would buy one!}

    The cookies:
My original thought (a year and a half ago when I met Sean and had a feeling this day was coming) was to make a cookie Scrabble board. Unfortunately, I just couldn't get it to look quite right, so I made Scrabble cookie tiles.

Using my bench scraper, I divided square cookies into fourths.

I jazzed up my usual cookie recipe with 3/4 tsp vanilla bean paste in place of the 1/2 tsp vanilla extract. Since they were smaller, I cut the baking time down by 2 minutes.

    To decorate:

♥Outline each cookie with a #2 tip in ivory (AmeriColor Ivory).
♥Thin the royal icing with water, stirring in a teaspoon at a time until it is the consistency of a thick syrup. Cover with a damp dish towel and let sit for several minutes.
♥Stir gently with a rubber spatula to pop any air bubbles that have formed on the top and transfer to a squeeze bottle.

♥Fill in the cookies with the thinned icing. Use a toothpick to guide into the corners.
♥Let sit for at least 1 hour.

♥Using a #2 tip pipe the letters in black icing (AmeriColor Super Black).
    {I tried to get as close the the Scrabble letters as possible.}

♥Switch to a #1 tip and add the point value for the letters in the corners.
♥With red icing and a #3 tip, pipe hearts on several of the cookies.

    ♥Let dry overnight and package.

    {Wouldn't these be darling for Valentine's Day?}

Congratulations & best wishes Meg & Sean! Here's to a ♥sweet♥ life together! Cheers!
