Justin Bieber decided to do a little something special for his girlfriend Selena Gomez this weekend, so he made some phone calls and secured the Staples Center for a private screening of Titanic. Word has it the songstress was "shocked." Though the Bieb deserves major kudos for crafting an epic night for his girl, he's certainly not the only suave celeb in Hollywood. Check out more stories of ultra creative, ultra expensive romantic gestures from the stars here.
Justin Bieber Rents an Arena
Like we said, the Bieb pulled all the stops and surprised Selena Gomez with a date most girls wouldn't even dream of Friday night at the Staples Center.
Here's how it went down: Bieber first took Gomez to a Demi Lovato concert at the neighboring Nokia Theater, then led his gal through an underground tunnel connecting the two venues. The lights were dimmed and a table for two was set up in the middle of the empty 20,000-seat arena. The teen couple enjoyed a fancy candlelit dinner of steak and pasta from the arena's restaurant, The Lexus Club, before
Titanic started to play.
Gomez was, of course, "shocked" when she figured out what was going on. She'd probably be more shocked to learn her beau didn't have to pay a dime for the whole thing. The folks at the Staples Center comped the epic evening because Bieber has filled the venue three times in the past, and it was empty that night anyway.
Seal Proposes in an Igloo
Heidi Klum and Seal are one of the cutest couples in Hollywood, so it's only appropriate that their engagement story is one for the ages. The singer popped the question in December 2004 while the couple was enjoying a vacation to the Canadian Rockies.
Here's the model mama's description of what happened: "[Seal] took me by helicopter," she recalled. "He had an igloo built there, and they'd brought up everything: a bed with sheets inside the igloo, rose petals everywhere, candles. Very, very romantic!" Of course, there was a massive ring inside the ice formation as well.
The helicopter left them up on the mountain for a while so they could enjoy the special moment away from the rest of the world. Klum added: "It was hardcore. But I was ecstatic."
The couple tied the knot on the beach in Mexico in May 2005, and the romance lives on; they've renewed their vows every year since.
Johnny Depp Buys a Vineyard
Johnny Depp is one of the many stars against marriage, but that doesn't mean he doesn't believe in romance. For example, the actor reportedly bought girlfriend Vanessa Paradis a vineyard back in 2007, to celebrate the release of her new album.
Apparently the piece of land is close to the villa they already owned near St. Tropez, France. Depp has never publicly acknowledged the gesture, but we know he's good for it.
Dave Navarro Showers Carmen in Sunglasses
Dave Navarro and Carmen Electra's courtship started off on a very romantic note, although their eventual marriage only lasted three years. It was pretty much love at first sight for the rocker, then he went out and made a giant purchase for his future wife. He recalled their first date: “She had on this white fur coat, her hair down, and her eyes pierced my heart from 20 feet away. The first thing I did was buy her 1,200 pairs of sunglasses to cover up those eyes. I couldn’t risk anyone else having the same reaction.”
What do you buy for the wife that has everything? An island! At least that's what Jay-Z allegedly did for his wife Beyonce's 39th birthday last year. We hear the rapper plunked down a whopping $20 million for the private island, located in the Florida Keys.
Beyonce turned around and bought her hubby a $2 million Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport for his birthday just a few months later. If they could get the car
to the island they'd really be set.
